IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Hair Removal Treatment

Intense pulsed light is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis.

Approximately 20-30% of our hair is in the so called anagen (active growing) phase. In this phase, the hair follicle has a direct connection with the hair. During the anagen phase, melanin cell responsible for the color of the hair is produced within the hair follicle.

During the IPL treatment, the energy of the broad-spectrum pulsed light transforms into heat in the melanin cell, eliminating the moisture in the hair follicle, making it impossible for the hair to regenerate. So the darker the hair, the more effective the treatment. The treatment is painless due to the built-in cooling system. Only a slight warmth is felt.

Pre-Care Instructions:

  • The hair should be shaved as neatly as possible before treatment. The most ideal is a 1 to 2-day stubble length. (Trimming is included in the treatment if needed.)
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and the use of tanning beds 3 to 4 days prior to your IPL treatment. Do not apply self-tanning products one week prior to your IPL treatment. (This can significantly reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
  • One month before starting the treatment shaving is the preferred hair removal method. If you wax or epilate, the hair can break and lose connection with the hair follicle, making it impossible for the energy to get to the hair follicle during the IPL treatment. Plucking, waxing or chemical treatment can also damage the connection between the hair and the hair follicle, so during your IPL treatment you are only allowed to shave, but you can shave as often as you like.😉
  • Avoid bleaching two weeks prior to the treatment.
  • From the day before your appointment, do not apply makeup, body lotion, antiperspirants and sunscreen to the area to be treated.
  • Do not wear any jewelery or piercing on the area to be treated.

When is the best time to start your IPL hair removal treatment?

To achieve a long-lasting, smooth skin, 6 to 10 treatments are required, depending on genetics and the area to be treated. The IPL treatments are performed 3 to 6 weeks apart (to cover the entire hair growth cycle). If we take 8 treatments that are performed 4 weeks apart, it is a total of 8 months for the hair removal to be finished. If you would like to finish your treatment by the summer months, you have to start your hair removal sessions in the winter. There are certain body parts where 65% of the hair is in active phase, so with just one treatment, 60-65% of the hair can be removed from these areas.

The IPL Process

  • Examination of the area to be treated.
  • Filling out the personal data sheet, health form and consent form.
  • The specialist will inform you about the procedure, the expected results, how the process works and about the aftercare.
  • Determination of skin type (according to the Fitzpatrick skin type scale)
  • Performing the test flash.
  • Trimming the hair to the optimal length and cleaning the area.
  • Covering warts, pigment spots, moles.
  • The patient lays or sits on a comfortable cosmetic bed, the eyes are protected with safety goggles.
  • Flashes may be accompanied by a mild tingling sensation, but with the cooler in the flashgun, the slightly unpleasant feeling is completely bearable.
  • The duration of the treatment is 5 to 30 minutes, maximum 1 hour, depending on the treated area.
  • The surface of the flashgun is 10 square centimeters. The area is treated in a chessboard pattern with flashes every 2 to 3 seconds.

After Treatment

  • Right after treatment (for about 1 to 2 hours) mild redness may appear on the skin. Use skin soothing, cooling cream if necessary.
  • Avoid cosmetics and skin irritating, allergenic substances for 1 to 2 days after your treatment.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure, the use of tanning beds and self-tanning products for one week after your treatment.
  • Avoid mechanical irritations (hot baths, sauna, massage).
  • Do not shave until the redness has disappeared (the day of your treatment).
  • To achieve a nice result, do not wax, pluck, bleach or apply chemicals for hair removal after the treatment.
  • Peeling or redness might occur after treating skin lesions (acne cleansing, collagen augmentation, pigmentation treatment, dilated capillary treatment). Cold compress or cooling gel can soothe the irritated skin.

How many treatments are needed?

To achieve a long-lasting, smooth skin, 6 to 10 treatments are required, depending on genetics and the area to be treated. The contrast value of the skin tone and hair color highly affects the number of treatments necessary. Patients with lighter skin tone and darker hair only need about 4 to 6 treatments. Those with darker skin tone and light hair need more sessions.

The number of treatments is also affected by the area to be depilated. On the upper lip and chin area, 65-70% of the hair is in the active growing phase, so even the first treatment can bring stunning results, while on the arms, this value is 20-25%. This is why more treatment is needed on the arm area. For patients with hormonal problems, this hair removal method is long-lasting, but not permanent.

Possible side effects:

Although this hair removal technology is extremely gentle, depending on the amount of energy used, mild redness and streaks might appear for 1 or 2 days after treatment. After treatment, as a result of natural healing, brown spots may become even darker, but will completely disappear after 1 or 2 days.

IPL hair removal treatment is not recommended:

  • During pregnancy.
  • In case of fever.
  • In case of diabetes, epilepsy, chemotherapy.
  • In case of active skin disease, cancer.
  • In case of autoimmune disease.
  • In case of tendency for keloid scarring (scar tumor at the site of injury) and hypertrophic (retractable scars) wound healing.
  • On active herpes.
  • On open wounds, injuries.
  • In case of melanoma (malignant tumor on the skin).
  • If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to light or taking photosensitising medicines (eg. retinoids, barbiturates, beta-blockers, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
  • On removed tattoos.
  • For white, gray hair.

Facial Rejuvenation?

Have your first wrinkles appeared? Painless, effective, professional IPL anti-wrinkle treatment.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation (Face)

IPL skin rejuvenation improves overall skin quality.
It stimulates collagen production, enhances firmness and texture, evens out skin tone, and reduces minor pigmentation irregularities.

The treatment is non-invasive and does not damage the surface of the skin. Results develop gradually and naturally.

Recommended course: 3–5 sessions
Frequency: every 3–4 weeks

IPL Pigmentation Treatment (Face or Décolletage)

Designed to reduce pigmentation caused by sun exposure, hormonal changes, or skin aging.
The light energy targets pigment in the skin, which gradually lightens, resulting in a more even complexion.

Recommended course: 1–3 sessions
Frequency: every 4–6 weeks

IPL Rosacea / Vascular Treatment

Reduces redness and visible capillaries.
The light energy causes targeted vessels to gradually constrict, resulting in calmer and more even-looking skin.

Recommended course: 2–4 sessions
Frequency: every 4 weeks

IPL Acne Treatment

Helps reduce active inflammation, regulates sebum production, and supports skin regeneration.
Especially effective for mild to moderate acne when applied as a treatment course.

Recommended course: 3–6 sessions
Frequency: every 2–3 weeks

Treatment Information

IPL facial and aesthetic treatments are recommended as a course of sessions. Prices refer to a single session.
Due to the skin’s natural regeneration cycle, treatments are typically repeated every 3–4 weeks.
The recommended number and frequency of sessions may vary depending on individual skin response.

If you would like, I can also format this into a clean, website-ready version with a slightly more premium marketing tone.
